The Problem

How might we transform homework and feedback management to empower secondary school tutors?

Online secondary school tutors struggle with fragmented tools for managing homework and feedback, leading to inefficiencies in their workflow and communication. With over 30,000 private tutors in London alone, there is a pressing need for an integrated solution to streamline these processes and support business growth.

Old experience

I designed ClassTrack to unlock an estimated revenue of $2.3 million USD post-development

The Process

Prioritising in a two-month timeline

With just two months, I prioritised by refining the project scope, assessing market potential, and conducting five key user interviews. I focused on building essential features and iterating quickly with continuous feedback.

Design Decision

Designing for Maximum User Impact

User interviews and journey mapping revealed that the most significant pain points were during the frequent app switching for file transfers. By focusing on these areas, I aimed to reduce time-consuming tasks and streamline the workflow, creating a more efficient experience for both tutors and students.

Design Iteration

Clarity through simplicity

Usability testing revealed that preview images on assignment cards added unnecessary visual clutter. I simplified the design by removing these previews, allowing students to view assignment details only when they tap into the card. This change resulted in a cleaner, more focused interface.

Design System

Crafting a cohesive brand identity

I opted for a minimalistic, modern style to ensure clarity and ease of functionality, using a single distinct accent colour for call-to-action buttons to enhance accessibility. The design system I developed is dynamic and cohesive, providing a comprehensive suite of fully functional styles and components that contribute to a seamless user experience.

Final Designs

3+ Apps to 1 Comprehensive Solution

Flow 2. Teacher receives homework

Flow 3. Student submits additional work

Student View

Flexible multi submission

Initial testing showed students often needed to submit additional work later. I added a feature allowing multiple submissions, easing the pressure of a single submission.

Tutor View

Optimised Tutor Inferface

A/B testing revealed an 80% improvement in user satisfaction by separating Instructions and Preview into tabs on the tutor interface. This change enabled an at-a-glance view of which students submitted homework, significantly enhancing workflow and accessibility.
